Troopers thrash people in Verinag, five injured

Anantnag: At least five people including a woman were injured after government forces beat them up in Verinag town of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The injured were taken to district hospital Anantnag where from one of them identified as was referred to Srinagar on the basis of severity of hospital injuries. One of the injured woman Shahnaza who had suffered injuries in his arm and hand said that she was going to a buy bread from the shop when troopers came in a vehicle and started beating everyone whosoever came their way. “We had just finished Asar prayers and were coming out of Masjid. By the time forces  came in a vehicle, jumped down and started thrashing indiscriminately with lathis and gun buts,” said one of the injured.
The locals said later, the troopers barged into the houses beating up the inmates and breaking household goods.

In Mattan area of Anantnag CRPF troopers beat up a man Sajad Ahmad hitting him in his head. He was immediately rushed to hospital for treatment.
