Joint resistance group issues fresh protest calendar

Srinagar: The joint resistance camp led by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik on Monday announced shutdown and protests would continue till Friday.

In a statement issued here, the trio said in continuation with the protest programme till July 19, amid a complete shutdown, a ‘Black Day’ would be observed on July 20.

“On July 21, there would be shutdown till 2pm and on July 22 (Friday) there will again be a complete shutdown and peaceful protests after prayers,” they said while appealing people to hold peaceful protests in mosques after Magrib prayers on all days.

The leaders also rejected and criticized the Indian government’s statement in the parliament against the backdrop of current killings and extreme repression in Kashmir by blaming pro freedom leadership and others.

“The current situation is directly a consequence of India’s occupational and military approach to the Kashmir problem. The Indian propaganda with regard to the current situation in particular and the Kashmir dispute in general has blinded them to extent that they are unable to understand and accept the genuineness of people’s anger for freedom and justice,” they added.

The leaders hailed the courage and steadfastness of people. “All forms of expressing resentment and protest against the unabated killings and injuring of innocent civilians have been curbed. Right to assemble and mourn snatched, shoot to kill ordered, strict restrictions enforced, leadership caged, media censored and gagged. Every human and civil right violated, the options to protest and resist this extreme oppression and assault on people
