CRPP demands criminal cases against officers responsible for civilian killings

Srinagar: Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners (CRPP) has demanded an impartial enquiry into the killings of not only the civilians but also what it termed the fake encounter of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, that led to the outbreak of protests from the people.
CRPP, that is led by SAR Geelani and has various human rights and social activists on board said in a statement that officers responsible for all the killings should be booked under the Crpc.
“We also demand that all those detained for going out to the street to express their anger and anguish should be released without delay. They should not be harassed with cases. And last but not the least, instead of once again asking what the people of Kashmir want, any lasting peace in the region will not come without justice and any effort to address that question cannot ignore the question of right to self-determination of the people of Kashmir,” CRPP statement said.
CRPP referring to the torching of  the house where Burhan was killed said,“it is dawning upon us the so-called encounter of Wani is fake. He was caught, tortured and killed. Even the senior-most leader of the ruling PDP Muzaffar Beig has expressed his doubts over the story of encounter floated by the state agencies.”
“One is witness to a desperate state trying to first justify the killing and then unable to swallow the cloud burst of anger from the people of Jammu & Kashmir and the bad international fallout is imploring for “peace” and “normalcy” though the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, or his Home Minister Rajnath Singh, or their alter ego in the valley Mehbooba Muft is yet to spell out what it actually means in one of the heaviest militarized zones in the world with more than seven hundred thousand military personnel!,” the statement reads.
The statement said that while Mehbooba Mufti is vouching that the police and paramilitary shall be made answerable to the ‘excesses’, Narendra Modi of late have cautioned the security forces “not to lose their calm”. “Further it smacks of sadism when the police and paramilitary uses the most lethal of means to deal with the everyday protest of the people,” CRPP said.
The CRPP warned that every effort to brush aside the real political issue underlying the continuing ebb and flow of protests of the people in the region can only prolong the resolution of the political question through killing, maiming, bribing, torturing, disappearing considerable sections of the people.
“All the efforts to dress up the wounds of the people in the region with crumbs flowing from the chains of international capital are just wishful thinking at best keeping the conflagration between India and Pakistan alive which is the interests of the geo-political game of imperialism,” it said.
