Srinagar: Angry youth set ablaze the house and also cut down the apple orchard of a family in Kokernag after rumour spread that the family ‘had knowledge’ about the operation in which Hizb commander Burhan Wani was killed.
Sources from the area said that scores of protestors marched towards the house of Manzoor Ahmad and torched it. The house belonged to the maternal uncle of one of the slain militants in the encounter, Sartaj Ahmad.
Additional Director-General of Police (Crime Investigation Department), SM Sahai confirmed in the evening that a house in Kokernag had been set ablaze, and said that it was the same house where Burhan Wani and his associates had been cornered and killed.
Sahai said that the house had been torched by locals and the motive was yet to be officially ascertained.
