Srinagar: Resistance leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik on Tuesday appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir Police to refuse to carry weapons against their own people. The leaders urged the policemen to look inward and ask themselves why they have become an instrument of repression at the hands of Indian authorities to kill and injure their own fellow Kashmiris.
Asking policemen to recognise that they were a part and parcel of the Kashmiri nation and society, the pro-freedom leaders said that the J&K Police were not only failing their basic responsibility to their community but also incurring the wrath and dislike of their people, who are so angry and disillusioned with them that they ready to socially boycott them.
The leaders said that while the Kashmiri people have no expectation of restraint or accountability from the Indian Army, CRPF and other Indian paramilitary forces, they expect empathy from the JK police.
Reminding policemen that they belong to this place and those that they kill are innocent young Kashmiris, the resistance leaders appealed to policemen to refuse to become part of the Indian design to annihilate Kashmiris.
