Srinagar: The government on Sunday said the the forces are “compelled” to use their weapon while appealing the political groups to maintain peace.
“We will investigate disproportionate use of forces but in most of the cases, police stations were burnt and camps were attempted to overrun. In majority of place, siphai (soldiers) and law enforcing are forced to use their weapons,” government spokesman Naeem Akhtar told reporters.
He was briefing media after a cabinet meeting was held by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in the backdrop of Burhan’s killings. As many as 17 people have been killed during protests over the militant commander’s killing.
“But as a society, we should not take protests to that level that a person carrying weapon will be forced to use it,” he said.
However, he parried questions from media persons and walked out.
