Thousands attend funeral prayers of ex-legislator Ghulam Jeelani
Pampore: Thousands of people including top political leaders attended the funeral prayers of senior political, social, religious leader and ex-legislator Peerzada Ghulam Jeelani Qadri. The funeral prayers were held at Khanqah-e-Moula, Pampore on Tuesday morning. Peerzada Ghulam Jeelani, reckoned as a key member of Congress in Pampore area passed away on Monday evening at his Gowsia Colony Namlabal residence in south Kashmir’s Pampore town.
Some of the prominent leaders who attended the funeral prayers and visited the house of deceased to pay condolences included Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, provincial president of NC Nasir Aslam Wani, Mohamnad Akbar Lone, Education Minister Nayeem Akhtar, Justice Ali Mohammad Magray and others. National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Ghulam Jeelani and extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family especially Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi and NC youth leader Yawar Masoodi.
Senior Party Leaders including NC General Secretary Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, senior leaders Abdul Rahim Rather, Sakina Ittoo, chief spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and state spokesperson Junaid Mattu besides party legislators, office bearers and activists have also expressed grief over the demise of Haji Ghulam Jeelani and expressed solidarity with Justice Masoodi and Yawar Masoodi. Jeelani served as MLA for 4 consecutive terms from 1951 to 1967. He also was nominated as MLC from 1967-1972 and has served in important national committees. Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly also paid tributes to Peerzada Ghulam Jeelani and observed two minutes silence to honour his contributions as lawmaker.
He was the last surviving member of J&K Constituent Assembly. General Secretary AICC and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and J&K Governor N.N Vohra also expressed his deep and heartfelt condolences on hearing the sad demise of senior congress man.
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti too condoled the demise Ghulam Jeelani. Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, the Chief Minister prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
