SRINAGAR: Terming the month of Ramadan as a blessing for entire Muslim Ummah, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) and Jammu Kashmir Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Sunday said this month teaches forbearance, fear and abstinence, and dedicating in the way of the Almighty Allah.
As per a statement issued here, Mirwaiz addressed people at the Auqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar’s Masjid Narwara on the title ‘Ten Days of Forgiveness’ of Ramadan.
Mirwaiz said the problems the Muslim Ummah is facing could not be resolved by mere wordplay and urged everyone to come forward and take practical steps to nip the evil in the bud. “Ramadan provides an opportunity to come closer to Allah by being in His obedience and also in shaping one’s character. An individual’s character not only shapes his own life but the entire society’s by bringing better changes in the environment around him or her,” he said.
“Despite being a Muslim society, it is pitiful that various social evils are coming to fore every other day in Kashmir, which are weakening the conditions of people and state’s economy as a whole,” he said.
“Kashmiri youth must shape their character in such a way that they become idols for the rest of the people in the society. Islam lays emphasis on character development and that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) became a role model for everyone by setting an example with his own shinning character. Every Muslim should have such a character that non-Muslims get impressed with them and get attracted toward Islam,” he said.
