Srinagar: Assembly speaker Kavinder Gupta has sought investigations into land transfers under JK Roshni Act after some members alleged that politicians and bureaucrats have occupied land under the guise of this scheme.
Thousands of acres of land in the possession of people were regularised under this scheme, mostly in Jammu region.
During question hour, some legislators claimed that politicians and bureaucrats have illegally occupied the land under the Act.
Replying to National Conference legislator Mubarak Gul’s query, revenue minister Basharat Bukhari said 229,691 kanals of state land have been transferred to 50,157 beneficiaries in the state.
While 19,293 kanals of land have been transferred among 10,328 beneficiaries in Kashmir, 210,398 kanals have been transferred among 39,829 beneficiaries in Jammu region, he said.
BJP legislator Rajeev Jasotria said the government had expected that it will earn Rs 25,000 crore by transferring land to beneficiaries under this Act and spend the money on construction of new power stations.
“But only Rs 74 crore has been realised. It seems a fraud.
The land has been granted to influential politicians and bureaucrats. Government should disclose the names of politicians and bureaucrats who have been benefitted under the Scheme,” he demanded.
BJP legislators and PDP MLA Ashraf Mir supported his demand. They also sought probe into the matter.
Bukhari said a PIL is pending before the High Court and sought suggestions from the legislators.
He assured that an inquiry would be called into the transfers.
