United resistance rally held; Yasin Malik arrested

Srinagar: JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested again on Tuesday night by a police team that arrived at his residence. Police also arrested JKLF deputy chief organiser Sirajuddin Mir, JKLF district presidents Muhammad Ishaaq Ganaie and Bashir Ahmad Boya, preventing them from going to the protest demonstration at Lal Chowk on Wednesday.
Despite these arrests, JKLF leaders and activists went in large numbers to the sit-in that was held at Kokerbazar near Lal Chowk. Organised jointly by the APHC (G), APHC (M), JKLF and other pro-freedom groups, a protest rally was taken out from the Hamza mosque in Kokerbazar. To symbolise the silent protest, participants covered their mouths with a black cloth and held placards against Pandit colonies, Sainik colonies, New Industrial Policy, and oppression of Jammu Muslims.
As the rally moved towards Lal Chowk, it encountered barricades, police vehicles and razor wire placed by the police. They changed their way and went to Kokerbazar main chowk. There the police again stopped them, whereupon they sat down on the road. JKLF vice-chairman Bashir Ahmad Butt and leaders Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori and Ghulam Nabi Zaki participated in the protest. Senior leaders from both APHCs took part. The silent protest lasted for about one hour.
