Baramulla: The government forces on Monday launched a search operation in Handwara area of north Kashmir.
According to reports, teams of the Indian army and other forces cordoned Bhawan Watsar village and its adjourning forests after receiving information about the presence of militants.
As the forces reached near the spot, they fired several “warning shots” but none was answered, they said. Later, they added, the search was extended to the forests.
When the last reports arrived here, the forces were yet to locate any militants.
Superintendent of police, Kupwara, Ghulam Jeelani Wani, said the search operation was under progress. “A routine search was launched in the area, and it is still going on,” he said.
