Rare surgery done at SDH Pattan

Baramulla: Doctors at Sub District Hospital, Pattan conducted a very rare surgery on Amyand’s Hernia, which according to doctors is a rare entity and hernia surgeon usually encounters this as an unexpected intra-operative finding.
A team of doctors comprising Dr Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani, Surgeon Specialist, Dr Zahoor, Consultant Anaesthetist and assisted  by theatre technician Younis and Mudasir conducted the surgery on a young male namely Nisar Ahmad of Singpora Pattan.
The patient was planned for routine inguinal hernia surgery and had un-expected intraoperative diagnosis of right Amyand’s hernia.
“He is doing well in follow up. Amyand hernia is a rare entity in which the vermiform appendix is located within the inguinal hernial sac. Amyand’s henna is usually confused with an obstructed or strangulated inguinal hernia, torsion of the testis or with epididymo orchitis,” doctors, who operated on the patient, said.
BMO Pattan hailed the endeavor of his team of doctors. “They deserve credit and appreciation”, said the officer. Locals too have hailed the efforts of the BMO and his team for the successful surgery.
