Anantnag: Awami Itihad Party (AIP) chief and MLA Langate, Er Rasheed is likely to contest Anantnag by polls to be held on 19 June. The party has obtained two forms one for chairman Er Rasheed and another in the name of its Anantnag district President Adv Mujeeb-ul-Rehman from district election authorities.
When contacted, Er. Rashid said that the party is yet to decide about the candidate to be fielded for Anantnag by polls. “I have also obtained the form from the returning officer but the final decision about the candidature will be taken in a meeting of executive council meeting late evening today,” Rashid told Kashmir Reader. However another party leader said that most of the people in the decision making body suggest that Engineer should himself fight from the seat.
“Most of the people in the party are of the view that Chief Minister herself is in contest and that Engineer himself should fight against her,” the party leader said adding, “both the candidates are likely to submit the nominations tomorrow and one of them will later withdraw his papers.”Congress candidate Hilal Ahmad Shah, who had lost by around 6000 votes in previous assembly elections, has already submitted his nomination papers on Monday while as NC candidate Iftikhar Misgar and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti are going to submit their nominations on Wednesday, the last date for the submission for papers.
