SRINAGAR: Ruling PDP legislator Javaid Mustafa Mir on Saturday said cold desert Leh has been turned into a garrison and that a single camp owes Rs 133 crore rent to the government.
Commenting on the governor’s address, Mir, while asking the Opposition congress MLA Leh Nawang Rigzin Jora to focus on the hilly region, said, “kiraya wasool kyin nahi huwa. Rs 133 crore are lying with the army.”
He said the military intelligence was following him after he left Nobra town. “Didn’t you see the army jeep was following us when I chaired the meeting there,” he said addressing the opposition benches.
Mir was the Revenue Minister in the PDP-BJP coalition under deceased Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
According to him, Buddhists, Muslim and Hindus are worried as they have to seek permission from army for fetching water.
“People can’t fetch water without the permission of an army major. Kya samja hain unhe. Aaj aap unhe paani ke liye tarsa rahe hain,” he added.
He raised the issue of people’s participation in militant’s funeral and said that it might pose a problem.
“When a militant gets killed, thousands of people join his funeral. They have shed fear,” he said.
