Sopore gives hero’s farewell to Hizb militant

Sopore: Several thousand people poured onto streets of Brath Kalan, Sopore, when the body of Adil Ahmad Mir (24) son of Mohammad Sultan Mir reached home. Adil was one of the two militants killed in a gunfight in Tangmarg on Friday.
Adil had left his home on 12 May 2014 to join Hizb. He was pursuing a masters in Economics from Barkatullah University in Bhopal and was vacationing at home when he joined militancy.
“When he went missing we looked for him everywhere, lodged a missing report in local police station and visited many security camps but all in vain. We gave all his photos to various agencies. Now we don’t even have a photo of our son,” Adil’s father Sultan Mir, sitting at the main gate of his home, teary eyed, told Kashmir Reader.
Adil’s mother, who was waiting for her son’s body to arrive, was holding a pot full of candies in her hands. Women shower the bodies of unmarried militants with candies, like bridegrooms are.
When Adil’s body arrived, like his mother, dozens of women showered plateful of candies over his body from the balconies and windows of their homes.
The woman sang “tera bayee, mera bayee, Adil bayee Adil bayee (brother of us all, Adil), wala myani shahedo, bochh ma lajee (come my martyr, you might be hungry).
Scores of men and women wept bitterly as the body was being carried towards its final resting place.
Adil’s elder brother, a teacher, said, “Adil’s was our youngest sibling and the most loved one. Three of us brothers and one sister are elder to him. He always used to say that ‘I will start earning and help my family’ but suddenly he left home and never came back. Adil’s only friend Riyaz who was also a militant achieved martyrdom a year ago in Ladoora, Baramulla.”
“I have never seen my brother these two years and today when I came to know from relatives that they have seen a picture of dead Adil on the Net I lost my strength. I couldn’t come to see my brother’s bloodied body,” he added.
Adil was laid to rest next to his friend Riyaz, after funeral prayers in which thousands of people participated.

Grow up. You have one life. Don’t screw up your youth for this nonsense.
