‘Shaheed Nayeem Memorial Gold Cup Cricket Championship to begin from May 29’

SRINAGAR: Star XI Cricket Club Handwara is organising a tournament in the name of “Shaheed Nayeem Memorial Gold Cup Cricket Championship 2016,”a statement issued by the tournament organizers said.
The tournament is organised in the memory of Nayeem Qadir Bhat who was killed by government forces on April 9 this year when the valley was protesting against the alleged molestation of a girl by government forces.
Nayeem, who was a first year student in Government Degree College Handwara, had shown extra ordinary performance in the state level under-19 cricket championship and he would ply his trade for Star XI club
Nayeem’s potential was evident from the word go and earned him a spot in Kashmir Gymkhana Club Blues and Pride Riders- a T-20 franchise that plays in the Downtown Champions league.
The inaugural match of the tournament is being played on May 29 between Kashmir Gymkhana reds Srinagar and Murtaza Warriors Srinagar at Government Boys Higher Secondary playground Handwara.
According to the organisers of the tournament, no participation and registration fee is being charged from the teams participating teams in the tournament.
