NC leader escapes unhurt in attack

Cop killed, another injured after suspected militants open fire

Pulwama: A National Conference (NC) leader and former Member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council, Mohiuddin Mir, today had a narrow escape when suspected militants attacked his vehicle as he was going to attend a marriage ceremony, at Monghama in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Two policemen, including Mir’s PSO, were injured in the attack, one of whom latter succumbed to his injuries, SP Pulwama Mohammad Rayees told Kashmir Reader.
The militants reportedly also snatched the service rifle of the PSO. The police personnel were identified as Riyaz Ahmad Ganaie and Shabir Ahmad, both of whom were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Security forces rushed to the spot and an operation was launched to try and nab the attackers.
Mir had unsuccessfully contested the assembly election from Rajpora constituency in 2014, on a NC ticket.
