Srinagar: Two militants have been killed in an ongoing encounter in Nowgam sector of Handwara town in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday.
Indian army’s Srinagar based spokesperson, Lt. Col Manish told Kashmir Readerthat the army’s 35 RR 16 Jat, and 1st Naga regiment who are manning the Line of Control (LoC) intercepted a group of five to six militants on Thursday morning near Toot Mari Gali in the area.
He said an encounter started when forces launched a search operation after they received a tip off about the presence of some 5 to 6 militants suspected to have crossed from the other side of the border during the Wednesday night.
“Two militants have been killed so far, however, encounter is still on,” he said.
He said that army has deployed two helicopters to keep a vigil on the moment of militants who have escaped to near forests. He, however, said that the forces have seized whole area and have also closed all the entry and exit points.
