SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (G) and Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) on Tuesday said the encounter at Sarai Bala, Srinagar, was fake.
Terming the killing of the two youths in the encounter as “mysterious” and “doubtful”, chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani, demanded an impartial investigation by some independent agency into the incident.
He also termed the statement of chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, as “ridiculous” and “unrealistic” in which she praised the state police for “not allowing JK to become Syria or Pakistan”.
Geelani said the police was involved in killing of hundreds of civilians the state.
“The special force of this police department which is known as SOG is expert in killing civilians, particularly youths and students in custody,” he said.
The Sarai Bala incident, he said, was a “new record and achievement” of “Mehbooba Mufti’s police”.
“According to the eyewitnesses, it was clearly a staged drama of fake encounter in which two youths were killed,” Geelani said.
Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief, Asiya Andrabi, also questioned the incident. She, in a statement issued here, appealed the government of Pakistan to approach the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against India’s disregard of the international laws.
“Two of our youth were killed mercilessly in a fake encounter in Saria Bala and a similar kind of encounter was staged in Drugmulla, Baramulla last week. There is no information about the identity of these youth. By all means, these encounters were staged,” she said.
She said that the way government forces have been killing innocent Kashmiri youth under the protection of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) was a clear violation of the international laws.
“Government of Pakistan must understand that India, at all levels, is trying to dilute the disputed nature of JK. So it is the responsibility of Pakistan to counter these aggressive and oppressive tactics of India,” she added.
