For a change, Music enthralls students in Sopore

Sopore: Day long inter college Music festival Tarana 2016 organised by Degree College, Sopore was held today. Representatives from sixteen different colleges of the valley took part in the musical bonanza which was presided by Education Minister Naeem Akhtar and attended by Director School Education Dr. Shah Faesal and others officials of district administration.
Popular faces of the musical world of Kashmir Kailash Mehra and Waheed Jeelani judged the performances nu the students. Degree College, Anantnag came out as winners of the contest. Energetic performance of Shafi Sopori kept the audience glued to their seats.
As soon as Education Minister Naeem Akhtar stepped on the stage, selfie sticks and mobile phones came out from almost every pocket of the student. Despite cell phones being banned in educational institutions, the enthusiastic students could not be stopped from taking selfies with the minister.
Akhtar during his speech announced Rs 1 lakh each for every college who participated in the festival so that the students can buy musical instruments. He also termed Sopore as heart of Kashmir Valley and a place which produced brilliant people like Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Audience mostly students stood up when Geelani was mentioned and started whistling.
