Unidentified gunmen open fire, kill two policemen in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Two cops,including an Assistant Sub-Inspector, were killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police party in Summer capital’s Alamgiri Baraz area on Monday morning, Police said.

“Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police party near Mill under the jurisdiction of Zadibal police station,” a senior police official told Kashmir Reader.

“During the attack ASI Ghulam Mohammad and Head Constable Nazir Ahmad were killed,” he said, adding, “They were shot in the head while on duty at the main chowk (near mill) without any weapons.”

“The bodies of the duo are currently in the police station,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed the responsibility of the attack.

The killings in Srinagar came a day after five militants were killed,as claimed by Indian army, in Check village of Drugmulla area in a ‘daylong gunfight’ on Saturday.
