Srinagar: The government has decided to allocate additional portfolio to peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone, who had resigned after he was made minister for social welfare, which is not considered ‘glamourous’ in the hierarchy of ministries.
BJP state president Sat Sharma said Lone will join the government next week as minister of science and technology and social welfare ministry.
Lone was peeved over being assigned a low ministry and had refused to take up the new assignment in the Mehbooba Mufti-led government. He was heading animal husbandry ministry in the maiden innings of PDP-BJP government led by late chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
It was learnt the BJP had convinced him to join the government as it could have dealt a blow to the government. Lone’s party won two seats in the 87-member Legislative Assembly in 2014 Assembly elections. He is son of senior resistance leader late Abdul Gani Lone.
Last year too, he had initially shown contempt for the animal husbandry ministry he was allotted. However, he later joined the office.
