SRINAGAR: Reiterating that the pro-freedom camp has time and again clarified its stand on the issue of rehabilitating Kashmiri Pandits, the incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Shabir Ahmad Shah, on Friday said that any move aimed at changing the demography of the state will never be allowed.
In a statement issued here, Shah said Kashmiris have always welcomed their Pandit brethren to their native places, but to allot separate colonies to them “is unacceptable”.
“It would create a rift between the two communities and will only serve the interests of communal forces who want to change the Muslim-majority status of the state,” he said.
Shah welcomed the “timely reaction” of the pro-freedom camp over the issue, saying, “We will never allow any anti-Kashmir policy like setting up of sainik colony, clusters for non-Kashmiri homeless, NEET, settlement of West Pakistan refugees, or Industrial Policy, succeed in any way”.
The reason for this, he said, was “obvious”.
“Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory and the Indian rulers are bent upon changing its geographical and demographical nature through such ploys,” he said.
Shah, however, welcomed Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley. He said: “We have many a times held meetings with them in this regard. We again request them to return to their native places and live as they used to before migrating.”
“They are the indigenous citizens of this land, but they shouldn’t fall into the trap of the communal elements. Reality is that those claiming to be champions of Kashmiri Pandits have no sympathy with them but are only exploiting them for their vested interests.”
Shabir Ahmad Shah warned that Kashmiris will be left with no option but to come on roads if authorities go with such “anti-Kashmir” moves.
Meanwhile, a Freedom Party spokesperson condemned Shah’s continuous house detention.
