Srinagar: Unknown gunmen shot dead a civilian in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday evening. Sources said the deceased, a carpenter by profession, had no political links except his sister was elected a village representative in the previous panchayat elections.
Police said Manzoor Ahmed Pala, a resident of Batapora village in Qaimoh pocket of the southern district said that he was shot dead by unidentified armed men near Udipora when he was moving towards his residence.
Police said investigation has been initiated in the incident.
Sources said that the deceased was a militant in distant past but he had renounced violence and was earning his livelihood by working as a carpenter. However, his sister had won panchayat election and was affiliated to ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP). No militant group claimed responsibility for the killing.
