SRINAGAR: To ease traffic congestion in Srinagar, police has started collecting details about vehicles owned by the traders in commercial areas.
In the survey, police seeks particulars about businessmen’s vehicles with an aim to prevent illegal parking along roads. On Friday afternoon, police was seen gathering details from traders at Karan Nagar, which remains clogged with vehicles during daytime.
A shopkeeper in the area said the police asked them about their phone and vehicle numbers.
After the Traffic Diversion Plan was implemented in the city, the government directed traffic police to ban roadside parking, which is seen as a major reason behind traffic mess in the city.
Apart from seizing the vehicles parked illegally on the roads, the traffic police has started sticking challans on them to curb the menace.
Station House Officer at Karan Nagar Police Station, Parvez Ahmad, said the survey would help in checking illegal parking in the area.
He said the survey would also help the police in identifying the complexes that are without parking spaces.
“We will ask the complex owners to arrange parking bays for the business establishments operating there. Else, the traders would have to keep their vehicles home to avoid traffic congestion,” he said, adding that the used-car dealers usually place their vehicles on the roads for sale.
