Bar opposes new industrial policy

SRINAGAR: J&K High Court Bar Association (Srinagar) on Thursday opposed the Industrial Policy-2016 under which the government intends to offer land on lease to non-state subjects.
In a statement issued here, Bar said the termed the proposed policy as “another ploy to diminish and destroy the Muslim majority character of the state”.
“Through this sinister mechanism, outsiders will be allowed to enter the state and remain here on a long term. They will also marginalise the local business community by settling in the state along with their men, material, and machinery permanently,” it said.
The lawyers’ body said the new industrial policy was an extension of all provisions of law that have been applied to the state of J&K since 1947 in order to erode its identity and character.
“The policy should be opposed by one and all. The business community of the state should concentrate on establishing their units all over the state so that the government of India doesn’t get a chance of bringing the people from outside,” it said.
