Baramulla: Five people, including a sarpanch and his son, were killed on Thursday in a road mishap at Uri, Baramulla.
The mishap occurred when a car travelling from Uri to Silikote skidded and plunged into a stream about 200 feet downhill.
Four people including the Sarpanch of Silikote village died on the spot, while the fifth one succumbed to injuries at the Sub-District Hospital Uri.
The deceased were identified as the sarpanch Ghulam Hassan Chalkoo (50), his son Mohammad Imran Chalkoo (26), Mushtaq Ahmad Awaan (22), Imtiyaz Ahmad Chalkoo (33), and Mohammad Asif Chalkoo (20).
All of them were residents of Silikote village
The Uri residents, who had rushed to help the victims, blamed the condition of roads for the mishap.
Meanwhile, two ladies, identified as Gulshan and Ulfat of Kutlari village of Mawar Handwara, were critically injured in a separate accident at Drangso, Mawar, on Thursday afternoon.
Both the ladies were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
