SRINAGAR: To commemorate achievements of Innovation and Technology in the country, National Technology Day was celebrated at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora today.
Minister of State for Forest, Ecology & Environment, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Cooperative and Fisheries Mir Zahoor Ahmad was the Chief Guest while as Minister of State for Hajj & Auquf, PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Power, Industries and Commerce Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi attended the function.
Speaking in the inaugural session, Mir Zahoor urged that teachers must ensure setting clear goals otherwise technology can be misused. He said teachers also need to be trained and this education must be on-going. He stated technology touches each and every facet of our lives. He further said that be it searching answers to complex problems, or facilitating the lives of the sick and disabled, technology has magnificently enhanced the quality of life and also boosted the economy of the world.
The Minister announced Rs 5 lakh out of his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for development of the University.
While addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor-IUST Prof A R Trag highlighted the achievements made by the University in its short life span in the field of science and technology. He said that owing to the application of technology, our standard of living has increased. Our needs are met with greater ease.
