Schools closed in Budgam village following chickenpox outbreak

SRINAGAR: Authorities closed for six days all schools in Arath area of Soibug in Budgam district following an outbreak of chickenpox that affected 30 children.
Kashmir Reader learnt that a non-local student had developed symptoms of this highly contagious disease and infected his classmates.
Soibug block medical officer Dr Mehraj-ud-Din said, “We closed down the school where the children were diagnosed with chickenpox and two more private school in its vicinity were closed as well.”
Asking people not to panic, he added, “Closing the school was one of the precautionary measures because these children need to be kept in isolation because mere cough or sneeze can transfer the disease. It takes 10-21 days for the disease to show its symptoms so it is better to take precautions.”
