Srinagar: After 27 days, police finally lifted its ‘cover’ of the Handwara girl, whose alleged molestation by a soldier led to a series of protests in which army and police killed five people last month, Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society said.
“This comes after a sustained campaign in which all legal remedies were used by the family. Yesterday, the High Court had asked the girl’s parents to write on affidavit that they don’t need police custody. The same will be submitted by the lawyers tomorrow but the police have in a pre-emptive manner ended the illegal detention even before the court announced its decision,” a JKCCS spokesman said in a statement.
“We now hope the Handwara minor girl will de-stress herself and very soon the next steps regarding her struggle for justice will be taken,” he said, adding, “We thank each one of you who have supported the Handwara minor girl and her family. InshaAllah we all will always struggle together for truth and justice.”
