Lady Mufti’s accession remark

Accession not final, Kashmir disputed, maintain Azadi leaders, lawyers

SRINAGAR: The pro-freedom parties and associations on Monday lambasted chief minister Mehbooba Mufti for saying that the future of Kashmir was safe with India.
While addressing a public gathering here on Sunday, Mufti had said, “The decision to accede to the Indian union is final and a secure one.”
She lauded the Indian democracy as the one that “allows people to dissent freely” and criticised Pakistan for hanging “scores of people, children and old, every month”.
“But here (India) a Kashmiri youth was hanged (referring to Afzal Guru), irrespective of why and how, whether right or wrong, but both Hindus and Muslims of India, academics and the media raised questions against it. This was only possible in India and nowhere else,” she had said.
The pro-freedom leaders and lawyers’ body High Court Bar Association refuted her views.

‘We are at war with India’
Terming the Mufti’s statement as a “big lie contrary to the ground realities”, Hurriyat Conference (G) on Monday said she was just trying to appease “her masters”.
Hurriyat (G), in a statement issued here, said Mufti wants to retain her chief minister’s seat and for that purpose she can go “two steps beyond her fanatic coalition partner”.
“The people of Jammu & Kashmir haven’t given her any mandate to make any decision regarding the accession or the future of the state. She is talking beyond her jurisdiction and stature, making her position more ridiculous,” the conglomerate said.
People, it said, have been “at war with this oppressive country for the last seven decades”.
“Mehbooba Mufti has every right to respect the views of her pro-Indian father regarding the accession of the state with India, but she has no right to thrust her and her father’s views upon the people of Jammu & Kashmir,” it said.
“If she wants to be a loyal servant of RSS and the Sang Parivar, nobody will stop her. But she has got no right to insult and disgrace the aspirations and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people.”
The views of Mufti, Hurriyat (G) said, was an attempt to become more loyal than the king.
Terming Mufti’s comparison of capital punishments in Pakistan as “illogical and irrelevant”, Hurriyat Conference (G) said, “All these cases in Pakistan go through a long and valid judicial process and these decisions are announced by the appointed and qualified courts. Nothing like that happens in Kashmir.”

‘Surname Mufti doesn’t entitle you to issue Fatwas’
The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) said the future of the state “is not safe but in serious danger with India”.
The party said the future of millions of Kashmiris cannot be put at stake for saving the future of Mehbooba Mufti and a few people like her.
“The original face and politics of Mehbooba Mufti and her party are fast getting exposed. Surname ‘Mufti’ doesn’t entitle her to issue Fatwas,” JKLF said in a statement issued here.
Slowly but surely, JKLF said, Mufti and her party politics “is getting exposed”.
“To hoodwink public opinion and deceive people, these pro-India politicians used to act like pseudo-separatists, but after assuming power they are getting exposed gradually,” the party said
Mufti and other pro-India politicians should shun their “hypocritical politics” and propagate their real politics before people when they are out of power.
The JKLF stated that India has “occupied Jammu Kashmir by military might” and today, after many decades, Jammu and Kashmir remains as an internationally-acknowledged dispute and issue.
“India and its forces have made lives of millions of Kashmiris hell for the last many decades. Claiming that our future is safe with this country is actually a clumsy joke,” it said.

‘Kashmir an internationally-accepted dispute’
J&K High Court Bar Association, Kashmir, said that Kashmir “is an internationally-accepted dispute and its resolution lies in the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions”.
“Those who say that the so called accession of Kashmir with India is final are only befooling themselves and are rubbing salt on the wounds of Kashmiri people,” a Bar statement said.
The association maintained that the final disposition of the state has to be made in accordance with “the will of people to be ascertained through a democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite to be conducted under the auspices of the United Nations”.
In terms of the constitution of India, Bar said, Kashmir “is an unsettled dispute”.
“When the matter is examined in the context of Articles (mentioned in Indian constitution), it is clear that the so-called accession of the state of J&K with the Indian Union is in no way final or absolute,” the statement said.
Bar said Pakistan suffered and became a target of terrorism only because it has supported the cause of the people of Kashmir “politically, diplomatically and morally”.

‘Kashmiris never accepted accession’
The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) criticised Mehbooba Mufti for her accession remarks.
The party termed it a “white lie”, saying, “Kashmiris never acceded with India. It is nothing but a forcible occupation.”
In a statement issued here, a spokesperson of the party asked Mufti to go through the “so-called democracy of India” before criticizing Pakistan.
“At least, Pakistan doesn’t hang anyone to satisfy the collective conscience of a nation. The democracy upon which Mehbooba Mufti showers praises has Godhra, Muzaffarnagar, and Meerut-like Muslim massacres,” he said.

‘India could never produce proof of accession’
Hizbul Mujahideen spokesman said there has been no accession with India.
In a statement issued here, the militant outfit said India sent its troops into Kashmir by deceiving Maharaja. “Till date, India has not been able to show the evidence of the so-called accession but has produced a fake document of accession. Parties like PDP and NC have been created to strengthen this forcible occupation. They are the enemies of not only Kashmiris but Indians too.”

‘PDP has signed accession with Sangh Parivar’
Hurriyat (M) leader Javed Mir said it didn’t suit PDP to talk about the so-called accession with India, as it has come into power by exploiting the resistance movement and sacrifices of the people.
“PDP has signed accession with Sangh Parivar, which has nothing to do with people of Kashmir,” he said.
