Militants ‘overpower’ cops, snatch four rifles

Policemen detained for negligence of duty

ANANTNAG: Suspected militants on Saturday night snatched four rifles and six magazines from the policemen guarding the minority community in Kulgam district.
Four suspected militants at around 3am last night barged into the minority police post in Adijan village and snatched rifles from all the four cops guarding some families of Rajput community.
They said that as per the version of the policemen who were on duty at the post, the militants asked them to surrender and then fled away with their rifles.
A top police official posted in the district, however, blamed the policemen for negligence due to which the militants succeeded in snatching the rifles.
“The policemen say militants overpowered them. But had they been alert and vigilant militants won’t have succeeded,” the police officer told Kashmir Reader.
He said that police has registered case against both the militants and the policemen.
“The policemen have also been detained and investigations taken up,” the officer said.
He identified the cops as Bashir Ahmad, Firdos Ahmad, Nisar Ahmad and Mushtaq Ahmad.
