SRINAGAR: Three men from Srinagar were arrested by police on Friday for allegedly raping a non-local teenager in a hotel at Qazigund, Anantnag.
The station house officer Qazigund, Nisar Ahmad, told Kashmir Reader that the trio gave lift to the girl from Lal Chowk here in their car after she couldn’t find a vehicle to reach her destination in Jammu.
They reached Qazigund late and rented two rooms in a local hotel to spend the night, he said, adding that the girl was provided a separate room while the trio shared the other one.
“After sometime, the owner of the hotel heard the girl scream and informed the police,” the officer said. “After reaching the spot, we barged into the hotel room and arrested the trio. They were taken to the police station.”
The girl was then taken to Sheerbagh Anantnag for medical test where doctors confirmed the rape, he said.
The accused have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Dar of Rainawari, Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan of Nowpora, and Sheikh Sarwar Hassan of Shaheed Gunj. They are 40-50 years of age.
An FIR has been lodged against the trio.
Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Kulgam sent them on 10-day police remand to police station Qazigund.
Interestingly, the family of Sheikh Sarwar Hassan has filed a missing report at Shaheed Gunj police station.
