Shutdown continues at Kangan against youth’s arrest

Kangan: Shutdown continued at Kangan, Ganderbal, for the second consecutive day on Friday against the detention of a youth.
On Thursday, police raided a salon here and arrested an undergraduate student Gowhar Rehman Rather (20).
Police said he was involved in stone pelting during the protests held after the recent civilian killings in Handwara.
The arrest sparked a protest and shutdown, which continued on Friday. The shops and business establishments in the town remained closed since morning in protest against the arrest.
The authorities had deployed police and paramilitary forces in strength to keep a check on the situation. Police said the situation remained “normal” throughout the day.
