Main accused in Al-Hajeej Haj travel scandal arrested

Srinagar: The kingpin of the multi-crore Haj and Umrah travel scandal in Kashmir in 2011 has been arrested from New Delhi from where he was trying to flee abroad and brought back here on Friday, police said.
Fabiyan Wahid Gilkar, prime accused in the multi-crore scandal was wanted in FIR number 58/2011 and 88/2012 registered in connection with  cheating on pretext of providing private Hajj and Umrah services by Al Hajeej Tour and Travels. The company swindled more than Rs 3 crore by duping almost 300 Hajj aspirants, many of whom have not yet got their money back.
Back in 2011, the private tour and travel company had duped hundreds of gullible Hajj aspirants. The owners of the company were absconding since 2012 after failing to provide visas to the aspirants despite receiving money and documents in 2011. Each single aspirant had deposited a minimum of Rs 1 lakh 20 thousand for the pilgrimage. Gilkar was arrested in 2012 by the police officials and was later granted interim bail as he agreed to deposit an amount of Rs two crore in the account of sessions court and promised to take aspirants to Hajj. However, the Hajeej owners failed to fulfill their promise and also violated the bail by not presenting themselves in the court.
The case against the company has been registered under no. 58/2011 and 88/2012 and the challan has been produced before the court in 2012 and 2014. These two case FIR’s were registered in Police Station Khanyar against Al-Hajeej Tour and Travels owned by Fabiyan Wahid Gilkar and others residents of Chandpora Harwan for cheating on pretext of providing private Hajj and Umrah services. Nine more cases were registered in different Police Stations of Srinagar against this company on the same allegations. The challan of these cases were produced before the Hon’ble court of law under section 420, 406, 295-A, 120-B RPC.
The accused of these cases were at large and were not attending the court upon which warrants were issued against the accused persons under section 512/CrPC. A look out notice was also issued by the court.
Police Station Khanyar got an information that the accused Fabiyan Wahid Gilkar was trying to flee to Dubai. Acting on this information, a police party of Police Station Khanyar was deputed to Delhi to arrest the accused. After arresting him, he was brought Srinagar today.
