Akbar wins cycling championship

SRINAGAR: Ace cyclist Akbar khan won the cycle race conducted by Chinar Sports Development Association on Thursday at Check-i-Kawoosa in District Budgam a statement issued by CSDA said.
The race was flagged off by the vice chairman Budgam Sports Council Rifat Abdullah
The race was completed in seven laps where cyclists covered distance of 42kms. Akbar khan defeated his competitors by a margin of 1km. Akbar khan took lead in fourth lap and later dominated the race. Adil Teli secured second place while Waheed Ahmad bagged third place in the race.
Large number of locals including women witnessed the competition early in the morning on Srinagar Gulmarg highway. The organisers appreciated the role of Police Men of Police Station Magam who regulated traffic very smoothly during the event.
On the concluding ceremony of the race, vc, Budgam Sports Council Rifat Abdullah distributed prizes among the winners.
Speaking on the occasion Abdullah said that Kawoosa has become a hub of cycling activities and there is need to promote the sport in the area at a large scale.
He also announced that a mega National level cycling event would be organised in the coming months at Kawoosa during the night under Street lights which are already functional on Gulmarg highway from Narbal to Mazhama.
Ajaz Bashir who sponsored the event, appealed the parents to channelize the talent of the children in a proper way and keep them away from social evils.
Meanwhile, in junior category, Pervaiz Ahmad Sheer Gujri of Boys Higher Secondary School bagged the first place while Saqub Sheikh and Monis Ismail of Gazala Memoral School bagged second and third position respectively.
