Mirwaiz criticises Wakf board for not maintaining Eidgah; inaugurates cricket tourney

SRINAGAR: Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday criticised Wakf board for not maintaining the sanctity of Eidgah.
“It is unfortunate that places like Eidgah and its adjoining areas had become a den of criminal activities and social evils,” Mirwaiz said while inaugurating a T20 cricket tournament at Eidgah ground.
Mirwaiz said, “The responsibility of the Muslim Wakf Board is to ensure that the Eidgah land be kept for religious purposes, while keeping in view the religious sanctity, is strictly utilized for religious activities alone.”
“The portion of land meant for sports activities should used for sports and other physical exercise purposes,” he added.
While critising Wakf Board for wrong approach, he said, “If they (Waqf) fails, it should accept its failure and handover the entire Eidgah to the muslim population which would look after this in a better way.”
