Kupwara : The army, SOG of police and other forces have launched a massive search operation in the forests of Kupwara district of north Kashmir since last week against suspected militants.
Reports said that different units of the Indian army along with SOG of Jammu and Kashmir and other forces including Para Commandos launched different search operations in the forests of Lolab, Keran, Rajwar, Langate, Karnah, Zirhama, Guzaryal and other upper belts of Rafiabad, Baramulla, for a week now, after receiving information that fresh groups of militants had crossed the line of control and were hiding in the forests.
However, the government forces have so far been unable to trace any militant. The forces, sources said, have installed mobile check posts and are checking every passenger vehicle and the identity cards of people.
A police official, on condition of anonymity, claimed there were more than a dozen militants in the Kupwara forests and intelligence reports had said some others had recently crossed over while some more were waiting on launching pads on the other side of the LoC.
The official said that government forces couldn’t go inside the dense forests, but were trying to block the movement of the militants. They had not found any traces yet, he added.
