Pampore: Two tourists were among five people who lost their lives in separate road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Twenty six persons were also injured.
A tipper driver was among three persons who drowned when their vehicle plunged into river Chenab in Doda district.
A tipper, on its way from Thathri to Doda for plunged into Chenab near Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp Karara. According to reports, the tipper bearing registration number JK06-6459 went out of the driver`s control due to slippery road condition and fell into the river on Batote-Kishtwar highway at around 7.30 am today. Three persons, including the truck driver, were drowned.
The driver has been identified as Mehboob Ali son of Abdul Rashid a resident of Khilhotran and other two were identified as Ishtyaq Ahmad son of Mushtaq Ahmad Khan resident of Kilothran and Mohammad Arif son of Javid Iqbal Rather resident of Changa Doda.
The locals along with a rescue team rushed to the spot but could not find the bodies when reports last came in.
Meanwhile people from Bhalessa area and relatives of deceased family held strong protest demonstration and blocked road near Karara for hours demanded continuous rescues operation to locate dead bodies.
In another accident, two tourists from West Bengal died on spot while seven others were injured after a vehicle plunged into a nallah on the Srinagar-Jammu highway at Banihal area of Ramban district on Wedneday, police officials told Kashmir Reader.
Police said, a Tempo traveller on way to Jammu from Kulgam of Kashmir—met with an accident near Nachlana in Ramsoo and fell into Bishlari Nallah near.
Nine passengers were boarding the vehicle, bearing registration number JK-02AR-0969 when the accident took place, a police official said.
Two persons who died on the spot have been identified as Santoovashes (28) son of Harovishes and Sanjay Pal (29) son of Gori Pal, both residents of Kolkota, West Bengal while other seven injured persons have been identified as Suman Rai son of Ashotosh, Vipal Dev son of Babu Dev, Jangish son Ashish, Rajab Rai son of Dinay Rai, Batagesh son of Gopal Desh, Charaya Shehra son of Ravi Dev and Jaideep Pal son of Brabir Pal all residents of West Bangal Kolkota.
All the injured persons were shifted to sub district Hospital Banihal by police, army and locals.
At least 19 people were injured, on Wednesday, in a minibus accident that took place near Shareefabad village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
According to the police, a minibus bearing registration number JK13-4308 on the way from Tral to Awantipora turned turtle at Shareefabad causing injury to nineteen passengers.
“The injured were immediately shifted to sub-district hospital Tral for treatment. While one of the seriously injured was referred to Srinagar hospital,” the police official said.
