SRINAGAR: Chairman of Ummat e Islami and Mirwaiz South Kashmir, Qazi Ahmed Yasir, was arrested again on Monday in Anantnag. He was on way to Bidder, Kokernag, to address a religious gathering. Acceding to a statement issued here, he was arrested near Brakpora and has been taken to an unknown destination.
This is his third detention in less than two weeks, it said. Mirwaiz Yasir has on Sunday asked the state’s Education Department to verify the syllabus of schools and only allow prescribed books that teach tolerance and do not evoke hatred.
“When children should learn lessons of morality and love, we are teaching them hatred,” he, according to the statement, had said at a religious gathering.
He also appealed for unity and respect to common beliefs among different schools of thought. Mirwaiz also ridiculed the Wakf board’s “mismanagement”, stating that the avenues and property of the board should be used for raising proper infrastructure in Masjids and for social work.
“Waqf should not be used to raise the funds of any party or for raising election funds,” he said.
He also prayed for the wellbeing of pro-freedom leader, Shabir Ahmed Shah, and said that the PDP government has gone a step ahead of National Conference in curbing voices of dissent.
