Says India hatching conspiracies against Kashmir’s demography
SRINAGAR: Syed Ali Geelani said on Monday that his successor would emerge only after his demise.
“So please don’t disturb me with such questions,” Geelani told reporters at his office-cum-residence in Hyderpora during a hurriedly convened press conference.
A large contingent of media persons had gathered at the venue anticipating an announcement on Geelani’s successor. Last year, the Hurriyat (G) nominated Geelani as lifetime chairman when some pro-freedom leaders including Shabir Shah joined his amalgam.
Geelani did not specify as to who would succeed his party TeH or the amalgam faction led by him after his demise.
“As far as TeH is concerned, they know what to do after my demise,” he said.
“For Hurriyat Conference it is for the Majlis-e-Mashawarat (advisory council) to decide,” he said.
Deliberating on issues confronting the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Geelani said that New Delhi continues to hatch conspiracies to change the Muslim majority status of Jammu and Kashmir. He said India is not concerned about the people but the territory of Kashmir region.
Addressing a press conference at his Hyderpora office-cum-residence, Geelani stated that Muslims and their faith Islam are the main targets of the Indian state in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The RSS and the BJP want to convert our Valley of Saints into a Hindu Rashtra. Worst part is that local pro-India parties are assisting these forces in every possible way in fulfilling their agenda in the state,” he said.
Geelani cited the examples of covering J&K under National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions in medical courses, the government’s proposals to build concrete structures for non-local labourers and the ‘unsympathetic attitude’ towards Urdu language—as proofs of the conspiracies hatched against Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir.
Geelani said that Kashmiris people are witnessing the worst kind of state terrorism, which he claimed, is among the worst in the world.
“The US, the UK, France, China and India etcetera, all commit state terrorism. These imperialist countries blame Muslims for terrorism only to hide their own anti-human activities,” he said.
Geelani asked the people to strengthen his party Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH), which he said is based on Islam and freedom of Jammu Kashmir.
