SRINAGAR: Police on Sunday afternoon detained the Awami Itihad Party (AIP) president Er Rashid along with dozens of his party workers when they tried to carry out anti-BJP protest march at Lal Chowk, Anantnag, in south Kashmir.
As per a statement issued here, Rashid addressed the public gatherings at Krangsoo and Muniward before he took out a protest march and was detained.
“We will strongly resist all efforts of saffronising Kashmir. Police is acting as Sangh Parivar’s private army,” he said.
The AIP president asked Mehbooba Mufti not to act as “mouthpiece of Sangh Parivar” and accused PDP government of ignoring the people of Anantnag on developmental fronts.
“Like other sensitive areas of the state, Anantnag has suffered worst during turmoil and the successive governments have ignored this historic constituency for supporting the resistance movement. Now, people of this district have made up their mind to teach these political renegades a lesson,” he said.
Rashid said hundreds of youth have been booked under false stone pelting cases. He asked Mehbooba Mufti to withdraw all cases against youth.
