SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Wednesday detained Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Mohammad Yasin Malik to prevent him from organising funeral prayers for party’s founding member Amanullah Khan.
The JKLF spokesman, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said that Yasin Malik was arrested today and curfew has been clamped in Lal Chowk, Maisuma, Kokerbazar, Kothibagh, Abi Guzar, Court road and other adjacent areas.
“All roads leading to Lal Chowk have been sealed by razor wire to prevent people from attending Amanullah Khan’s absentia funeral prayers.”
Meanwhile Mirwaiz Umar Farooq too has been placed under house arrest. He was scheduled to head a meeting of the Hurriyat and participate in the funeral prayers proposed at Lal Chowk.
Amanullah Khan, the staunchest supporters of Independent Kashmir and a founding member of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), passed away in Pakistan on Tuesday. He is survived by a daughter who got married to minister of social welfare Sajad Gani Lone.
