Ganderbal: Protests broke out on Monday in Kangan here after a woman was shot dead by her husband, who happens to be a BSF trooper.
According to the reports, Nazira Begum, mother of three, was killed by her husband after a heated argument between the year-old couple. She was a resident of Satrina, Kangan.
Following the incident, her relatives placed the body of the deceased in the middle of Srinagar-Leh road and disrupted the traffic for nearly one hour.
The protesters said her husband, Ghulam Hassan Chowhan, a constable in 193 BN of BSF posted in Rajsthan, planned the murder.
The brother of the deceased said she was always complaining of harassment at the hands of her husband.
“Today, he murdered her,” he said.
“It is a cold-blooded murder and the killer, being influential, may try to hush-up the case. We demand stern punishment to the culprit.”
The additional deputy commissioner for Ganderbal and police reached the spot and pacified the protesters by assuring action according to law.
Police said a few persons, including the husband of the deceased, has been detained for questioning.
It said Chowhan had recently returned home for holidays. A rifle used in the incident has been recovered, police said.
Meanwhile, the body of the victim was taken to hospital for postmortem and a case under has been registered under section 302 RPC in police station Kangan.
