SRINAGAR: A delegation of Hurriyat Conference (M) led by its senior leader, Bilal Gani Lone, on Monday visited the families of five civilians killed by government forces in Handwara and Kupwara recently.
As per a statement issued here, the delegation expressed sympathy with the bereaved families on behalf of the entire Hurriyat leadership saying, “The killings were an example of the government’s highhandedness”.
Lone said the “oppression and harassment” of people by government is aimed at “forcing them to give up their ongoing just struggle”. “Tactics like using black draconian laws and massive presence of forces is not going to cow down the people of Kashmir or make them to give up their legitimate struggle,” he said.
He accused pro-India political parties of shedding crocodile tears and doing “petty politics”.
Meanwhile, a spokesman of the conglomerate while condemning the continuous confinement of a 16-year-old Handwara girl in police custody termed it a “gross violation of human rights”.
