SRINAGAR: An antique Kashmir moon shawl made in 1820 has been sold for Rs 3, 12, 000 at an auction held by Sotheby auction house London.
The auction, a part of celebrating 40 years of its six-monthly ‘Islamic Week’ titled ‘Alchemy Objects of Desire’, had priced this 153×143 cm shawl above Rs 90,000.
The shawl fetched double its price, according to the auction house.
Its condition report had cited that the minor repairs had been carried out on this shawl, which also has some small holes.
This intricately-embroidered shawl, contrary to the present day shawls, had been pieced together with a circular middle along with a contrast border.
Kashmiri shawls industry that is centuries old industry has been delivering its products all over the world. Many of its products have been a symbol of fashion across Europe since 1800s.
