SRINAGAR: Kashmir University students held a signature campaign on Wednesday to demand release of the Handwara girl who has been placed under detention by the Jammu and Kashmir police.
More than 200 students from various departments of the varsity participated in ‘Free Handwara Girl’- themed signature campaign. They also expressed solidarity with the families of the five civilians killed in Kupwara the last week.
The varsity students threatened to intensify their protest for the release of the minor girl.
“Despite Jammu and Kashmir High Court’s directions, the state administration is hell-bent on delaying release of the girl,” Adil Ahmad, a student said. “The SHRC and Jammu & Kashmir Women’s Commission too have become mute spectators to the issue.”
The last week, High Court had asked police to declare the provisions of the law under which the girl has been detained.
