Handwara: Two youth were killed after government forces fired upon people who were protesting against the molestation of a girl at Handwara town in frontier Kupwara district on Tuesday.
The slain youth were identified as Mohammad Iqbal and Nayeem Qadir of Handwara. Health department’s Block Medical Officer Dr Rouf told Kashmir Reader that two youth with firearm injury were brought to the hospital around 3:30pm on Tuesday afternoon. Both the bodies, he said, were handed over to locals.
An army spokesman said it regrets the “unfortunate loss of life”. “Matter will be investigated and anybody found guilty will be dealt as per the law,” the official said.
