Baramulla: Five persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Kashmiri shawl seller in Jalandhar.
Jalandhar (rural) deputy superintendent of police Ravinder Singh Dhillon told Kashmir Reader that two of the arrested persons are Kashmiris, and one of them, Abdul Rashid Khwaja son of Mohammad Yusuf Khwaja, belongs to Shah’s native village, Dardpora.
Station house officer of Mehtapore police station Bajinder Singh said the Kashmiri duo has confessed to killing Shah inside a temple structure. He said police are interrogating the arrested men about the motive of the murder.
Shah’s body was recovered from a nallah. He had been strangulated with telephone wire and his forehead and nose had been battered.
The family had lost contact with him on April 4. His phone was switched off and other Kashmiris in the place had no idea of his whereabouts.
The body of the deceased, who was 30 years old and father of four children, was brought to his home on Monday. Hundreds of people participated in his funeral and demonstrated against the murder.
