Sopore: Tributes were paid to former Congress leader and MP Ghulam Rasool Kar on his first death anniversary in north Kashmir’s Sopore town on Sunday.
A large number of people from Sopore and its adjoining areas took part in the daylong programme held at dak bungalow. Kar’s politician son Irshad Ahmad Kar led his supporters in paying tributes to the late leader.
“Kar sahib was a courageous son of the soil who served the people and his party without any self-seeking ambitions,” Irshad, who joined the ruling Peoples Democratic Party after his father’s demise, said.
He said that his father maintained a close rapport with the party workers and remained accessible to them even when his health deteriorated.
Kar’s followers expressed hope that his son would carry his father’s legacy further. “We hope that his son will further his mission and work towards the welfare of the society,” Ghulam Mohammad, a local resident said.
Meanwhile, on the occasion, Kamraz Foundation Trust, founded by the veteran politician, announced a grant of Rs 2 lacs for the development of Sopore Hospital.
